Inspired by the clarity she experienced in discovering her own life purpose, Rachel decided to pursue a career in helping others walk the path of finding their true passion and purpose as well. Her interview inspires us to offer our potential clients more value than they expect and to focus on creating visions and practice goal setting to create true clarity in our own businesses.
What inspired you to become a holistic entrepreneur?
I noticed that there was a really big lack of holistic approaches to health, wellness and business especially in my generation. After experiencing clarity surrounding my own life purpose, I really wanted to help others find their true passion, and I’ve been especially drawn to entrepreneurs in the health, wellness and spirituality space.
Tell us about your business or practice.
I am an actress, writer and the founder of a socially conscious company that brings together lovers and leaders in the health, wellness and spirituality space called eatbeautiful.org. We produce books, create programs, offer one-on-one coaching and run workshops.
What is your current business model?
We provide one-on-one and group services to clients, digital products, as well as live events such as workshops.
What has been one of your favorite moments as a business owner thus far?
I think the best thing about being an entrepreneur is that you get to write your own rules. I love being able to get up in the morning and decide what I’m working on and how I’m going to do it. I’ve always felt more comfortable doing my own thing!
What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced in running your business or practice?
The biggest challenge for me has really been my own perseverance. I think any business owner can tell you that you need to be a self-starter and self-motivator. You need to be able to pick yourself and give yourself a bit of a pep talk when things aren’t working out exactly as you thought they would.
How have you overcome those challenges?
I am a personal growth lover! So I read a lot and continually learn to improve my mental habits. I think that counts for a lot! Strengthening my mental habits has been crucial to overcoming those types of challenges.
How do you find new clients?
I reach new clients through referrals, social media and communicating my message through a variety of media channels. I love storytelling, so I enjoy doing it through blog posts, video and newsletters.
What have you found to be most effective in securing new clients to sign up for your services?
People need to know what you do and why you do it. They need to connect with you on an ongoing basis so they get to trust who you are and what you’re about. Mostly, I find that word of mouth and referrals are what have been the most effective so far!
What do you do to keep your existing clients engaged in the long term?
I am continually creating new content for my readers and clients to get inspired by. I think you need to stay in touch and make sure you are offering your potential clients much more value than they expect.
As your own boss, what is your best strategy for staying focused and productive during your workday?
I’m a big fan of visioning and goal setting. I like to sit down and work out what my big goals are and basically work backwards from there. I break down all my bigger tasks into smaller ones and then schedule my daily tasks in my dairy. If it’s not scheduled in, it doesn’t get done!
If you could start your business over again from the beginning, what would you do differently?
It’s tough to answer that because you learn as you go along. I’ve learnt so many great lessons in my journey so far that it becomes this evolution of an idea that’s constantly changing and growing. I don’t think I would change anything because each step has been necessary both for my personal and business growth!
What were some of the first mistakes you made that you would tell a new holistic entrepreneur to avoid?
I think it’s important to just get clear. Get as clear as you can about what your product and services are, how you are going to stand out in the marketplace and WHY you are in business in the first place. This will give you the foundation of your business. Then the next thing I would say is get clear about the business model and make sure you’ve done your research so you know it’s going to work for the services and products you’re providing.
What are the top three business tools or resources you couldn’t live without?
My daily planner, my vision board and a mountain of personal growth books!
What has been your most effective method for growing your business?
Consistency. You’ve got keep at it. Develop a schedule, system or routine and stick to it and constantly keep evolving it.
In building your business, was there any specific mistake you made, “oops!” moment, or “I can’t believe I did that!” time that you look back and laugh at now?
Not really – there’s been few times that I’ve accidently posted an article with errors in it, but those kinds of things are easily fixed. And it just goes to show everyone too that you don’t have to be perfect! Mistakes are all part of the fun of it!
What is your favorite indulgence?
I love chocolate and on the very odd occasion a sweet cocktail!
Most exotic thing you’ve ever eaten?
Hm, that’s a tough one. Probably tropical fruits like starfruit, mangosteen and durian!
Most memorable place you’ve ever visited?
Maui. It’s beautiful!
Last book you read?
Getting There: A Book of Mentors by Gillian Zoe Segal – I highly recommend it!
If you could only have one kind of food for the rest of your life, it would be…
I think I’d get very bored if I could only eat one kind of food for the rest of my life! Even if it was my favourite meal!
What is your go-to breakfast?
A boiled egg, smoked salmon or bacon, grilled tomatoes and a green salad!
What do you find most fascinating about the human body?
That it does things without us even having to think about it. You know, like breathe!
What do you love most about being an entrepreneur?
I love the freedom I get. Time, location and creative freedom.
